From backup dancer to solo artist. From a girl inspired by Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, Queen and Madonna to Nia Lexo. Nia started her career as a dancer in the early 2010s, performing with dance teams and as a backup dancer for local singers in St. Petersburg. Later, she was hired as a choreographer for an independent production of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, where she also performed choir parts, following her dream of becoming a singer. Unfortunately, the production was never released, and Nia and the directors eventually went their separate ways. After graduating from the University of Culture and Arts, Nia joined a promotion company as a backstage manager, working on selected concerts during Northern European tours by artists such as Sarah Brightman, Scorpions, Alice Cooper, Andrea Bocelli and Michael Monroe. But a life close to music and the stage wasn’t enough. In 2020, Nia and her team began performing live Lady Gaga covers at club venues, creating original choreography for the shows. After being discovered by local Gaga fans, the project gained attention. During one of the performances, Nia was noticed by rock band Red God, who invited her to become their vocalist and English lyricist. Finally, in 2022, her solo project Nia Lexo was born. Drawing on her musical, visual and performance experience, Nia blends synth-pop, rock, city pop, alternative and gothic influences into her own distinctive world. “Being an independent musician isn’t easy, but having a background in choreography, staging and performance has made the journey much more exciting.” — Nia Lexo
